This year our honorees are:
Joseph L. Sorbera, Jr. – President of JLS Cost Management Systems Inc.
Mr. Joseph Lincoln Sorbera, Jr. is passionate about his family, animal welfare, Jesuit education, and his Italian-American heritage. He was born and raised in the tenements of Little Italy in New York, where the formation of family values, love of Sicilian traditions, and strong sense of community were deeply ingrained into his persona. Joe met his high-school sweetheart, Diane, in 1971. They married and have three children; Christina, Diana, and Joseph III. They went on to raise their family in Staten Island where they continue to reside along with their beloved golden retriever, Chewie, and cherished rescue dog, Max.
Joe is responsible for growing and reshaping his family’s construction business, which started in 1977, into an industry-leading project management and cost management organization whose client list includes global financial, banking, educational, and media firms. The firm specializes in large-scale capital projects, ensuring these are completed expertly as planned and on budget. The company motto, “deliver more than expected,” is indicative of the reason behind the loyalty they have earned from clients, colleagues, and employees alike. The evolution of so many clients and colleagues into dear friends throughout 40 years of being in business is Joe’s greatest source of professional pride.
Having previously served on the Board of Directors of Loyola School and The University of Scranton, Joe is presently Chairman of the Board of the renowned 114-year-old animal rescue organization, Bideawee, and a member of the President’s Business Council of The University of Scranton. Joe and his family support many philanthropic organizations with a special emphasis on those with an Italian-American connection such as the Italian Welfare League, The National Italian American Foundation, and the Italian Cultural Center at Casa Belvedere.

Since 1992, Val DiFebo has been one of the key architects of the success of Deutsch Inc.’s New York office. DiFebo helped redefine the Agency’s integrated multidisciplinary offering, allowing for the creation of rapid business solutions that impact a client’s business. Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, IKEA, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Green Giant, PNC, Revlon, and The Michael J. Fox Foundation are a few of the blue-chip clients she’s touched.
As a provocative industry thought leader, The Today Show, CNN, and even The Apprentice have all sought out her point of view. Under Val’s leadership, Deutsch is a regular on Crain’s “Best Places to Work in NYC” list—and has ranked on Advertising Age’s Agency A-List for nine out of the past 10 years.
Her philanthropic involvement includes being a founding director of Hearts of Gold Foundation which assists at-risk mothers. She also sits on Buckley Country Day School’s Board of Trustees, as well as her alma mater, Williams College.
