One of New York’s finest costume “couture” jewelry designers, Elizabeth Gottlieb – known as Liza, was born in France and raised in Vienna and Paris. Her classical approach to fashion was developed through her musical training at the National Music Academy in Paris.
Liza carefully curates her materials so that each piece is unique and sumptuous. Handcrafted from sterling silver, vermeil and vintage beads, using semi-precious stones among other materials, she knows how to accent a woman’s personal style from personal experience on the runway.
Here in New York, her pieces can be found at ‘Mirabelle Boutique” on Madison Avenue or by appointment at her show room and studio on the Upper West Side. In France, you can find her creations in Paris at the Hotel Georges V and at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes.
“Jewelry by Liza enchants the elegant woman of good taste with its beauty and timeless allure.”

On December 6th, the IWL Board held its annual Christmas Dinner
Throughout the year, the Italian Welfare League relies heavily on Nostra Famiglia and Nostri Amici to support Italian American children with disabilities. On #GivingTuesday, we encourage the participation of others across the country and around the world to choose the League’s I Nostri Bambini Program for their charitable contributions.
We encourage you to share the Italian Welfare League’s Facebook page and website with friends so they can see for themselves how the 97-year-old organization provided over 1400 children with medical supplies, treatments and equipment. . . making a difference in their lives . . ..one child at a time.
We thank those of you who participated in our extraordinarily successful luncheon in October. For those of you who could not attend, there is still time to consider supporting our mission. The IWL expects to donate more than $200,000 to children with cerebral palsy, autism, brain-injuries, cancer, Down Syndrome and learning disabilities this year. They thank you and we thank you!

The Italian Welfare League enjoyed dinner at Tiro a Segno – a private club on MacDougal Street and the oldest Italian heritage organization in the U.S. Sal Spatola sang old Italian standards and guests had access to the Club’s popular target shooting range.
The League attended Chazz Palminteri’s “A Bronx Tale” on Broadway on April 6, with a special cast Talk Back after the show.
In 2015, the IWL augmented funds raised by the Eslinger family to acquire a service dog. The current ECAD newsletter celebrates Timothy and his new dog Sky Rocket.
The IWL donated $7000, through the Staten Island Organization Yellowboots, to get Noah Ocasio a prosthetic leg. Our Treasurer, Geri DiCostanzo, personally visited the family on Christmas eve to help present Noah with his gift. The new leg is decorated with his favorite comics and is waterproof. Noah was thrilled to not have to wear crutches in the shower anymore. Noah suffered from complications during surgery that led to his having a leg partially amputated. For the full story, click this link to the Staten Island Advance article.
Our annual Autumn in New York Luncheon took place on November 5, 2016 at the Metropolitan Club, 1 East 60th Street. Honorees included: Nicholas R. Caiazzo, Esq. – Partner, Wilson Elser LLP; Ippolita Rostagno – CEO/Founder, Ippolita; and Joseph Zolfo – Producer NCIS: New Orleans.

In May, the IWL took a 9-day journey to the Veneto Region and experienced the roads less traveled. We discovered the rare beauty of Verona, Vicenza, Asolo, Bassano del Grappa, Treviso and Trieste. The last evening of our trip featured a private tour and wine tasting with a sommelier at the Bastianich Winery in Friuli, along with a four-course dinner with wine pairings at the Bastianich restaurant. This special wine and dine experience was arranged by world-renowned chef and restaurateur Lidia Bastianich.

Strangers Extend a Helping Hand to Struggling New Yorkers
By JOHN OTIS FEB. 27, 2016
. . . Ms. Margaret Macaluso was featured in an article in December in connection with the The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund. Hers was the story of a mother devoted to caring for her four sons, whose father died in 2013; working to rebuild a home destroyed by Hurricane Sandy; and fighting an aggressive illness — all with remarkable equanimity . . .After the article about her appeared, the Italian Welfare League gave the Macaluso family $10,000. Ms. Macaluso plans to use the money to buy a second car, which she said she hoped would alleviate some of the stress from the family’s frenetic lifestyle by allowing her sons to drive themselves to work and school . . .

Matthew was treated to a Harlem Globetrotters show and his brothers and sister also received gifts as part of the IWL’s annual Adopt-a-Child-for Christmas program.
Our 95th Anniversary was a spectacular success!! Special thanks to our honorees, Matilda Cuomo, Mariafrancesca Carli and George Simeone!
